This picture was taken July, 2014, in Yosemite Park at the beginning of a month long cross-country road trip.

When I left Japan at the end of my Junior year in high school, I moved to Arlington, Va, where I graduated. Next, on to college briefly, then in the Navy for 2 years as a Personnelman on the old aircraft carrier USS Hornet home-ported in Long Beach. Made a couple of Westpac cruises, then back to college on the GI bill.

Became a hippy. Tried to figure out what to do and went back in the Navy, in earthshoes. Served on an old DD, USS Carpenter DD-825) as Supply Officer, home-ported in San Francisco. Meanwhile, was married, had a son and was divorced. After active duty in the Navy (I stayed in the reserves- one of a couple of smart moves I made in my life), I sailed with my brother Richard to Hawaii on a 40' sloop.

Afterwards, I bought a salmon troller in northern California and eventually learned how to catch the wily Chinook.

Some of my jobs over the years were diesel mechanic, gold-miner, bartender, teacher, tire salesmen, groundskeeper, free-lance writer and recreational therapist in the psychiatric ward of a county hospital .

Got remarried, adopted a foster child, raised sheep and apples on an old homestead off the grid in the Mendocino County hills, served breakfast at a local tourist inn, managed a land-fill by operating bulldozers, compacters and dump trucks and enforcing recycling like a petty tyrant, wrote news copy for the local paper, and drove a county bus twice a week for many years along Highway One.

I've been a meditator for 40 years practicing Siddha Yoga and other forms of Kundalini Shakti worship, surf as often as I can, play the stock market too regularly, write fiction daily, practice Yang-style Tai Chi and teach Tang Soo Do (I'm senior student in my local dojang as a 1st Dan) here in Gualala, California. Only a couple of old friends call me the name, George, that I went by at Nile C. Kinnick. My wife Shelley calls me Norbert, my real name. Most people know me as Bob. Or Sir.
