How does one condense fifty years into a couple of paragraphs? Life has been good to me and I am thankful for everyday as it unfolds. I look at my life story as having been lived as separate phases.

My first job, after graduation from HS and returning to the U.S, was at W.T. Grant Co., (a department store) as a credit manager. Amazing how quickly I caught on to bookkeeping – it wasn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, my best subject in school.

Within months of returning to the U.S. in 1964, I met my husband to be. We married in 1968 and had one son in 1971. We started a business together – retail and wholesale tires and service. My husband did the grunt work and I did the books. I started to recognize how little I knew about business and taxes and decided to take the initiative and discover what it was I didn’t know I didn’t know. This changed my whole life.

I started attending college part time in 1980 then took the plunge and went full time to Bentley University in Waltham, MA, graduating with a BS in Accountancy in 1989 and a MST in Taxation in 1991. I completed the requirements for my MA CPA license in 1995.

By the end of my college career, my marriage was falling apart and I was ready to move on to the next phase of my life. I accepted a job offer with the U.S Treasury and have had a 23 year career with the Exempt Organization Division of the Internal Revenue Service. I started as a Revenue Agent in Boston, worked as a Reviewer out of Dallas for nine years and as the Northeast Area Staff Assistant since 2009. I’ve traveled all across the U.S teaching in house and speaking at the public IRS Tax Forums and workshops. Retirement is now looming…….. but not just yet.

I have been happily single since 1998. I have traveled extensively through Europe and to Indo-China as well as to Mexico, Canada and South America. My last big trip was to Vietnam. Frequent trips to Florida to visit friends and unwind keep me grounded.

Along with spending time with family and friends, a few of my favorite things include: gardening, reading, music, performing arts and dancing (Swing, Zydeco, Ballroom, and even Stick Dancing). I’ve started to look at different volunteer opportunities in the performing arts and working with geriatric patients to enrich my impending retirement.

Summarizing my life, I would say it has been great. I’ve experienced all the joys and disappointments, accomplishments and failures, sunny days and stormy nights that make up life. My life so far has been a blessing and whatever the future brings I look forward to it as a great adventure.
