I, John Lindstrom swear the following is the truth and nothing but the truth (at least as memory serves.)
- Left Japan on a cruise ship, bunch of teenagers partying for days, I mean nights. Hawaii then San Francisco.
- Senior year Newport High (could not quite get the preppy look). My Dad was doing War College bit. - Less than stellar grades and SAT scores pointed me to a "post grad" year at Bolles Preparatory School on the St. Johns River, Jacksonville. - It worked.
-Spent four years (65-69) at Emory University, outside Atlanta, majoring in Psychology (I am still trying to figure myself out.) - Bingo pingpong balls bouncing around on the fraternity T.V. for the draft, led me to believe that I would rather be serving my country flying over rice patties than sloshing through them. - Off to Air Force Training School, San Antonio (got a taste for the Riverwalk.)
- Pilot training, Moody AFB, Georgia. Fun weekend trips back to Emory Campus, but with a lot shorter hair, and starting to be less of it.
- C-141 cargo pilot, Travis AFB, Ca. Most flights, Hawaii, Guam, Vietnam, Thailand and my favorite Yokota, Japan. C-130 rescue pilot, Korat, Thailand C-5 large cargo aircraft, Dover, Delaware.
- Hired by Continental Airlines 1978, based El Paso, Greensboro, Houston, Newark, and Denver where I have lived in the Rockies for thirty years.
- Had a few year stint in that period due to furlough with People Express, where I met and married the girl who saved me from myself. Leslie and I have three awesome daughters: Nicole works in Brooklyn for Wanderlust, a Yoga festival creator worldwide, Brielle is expecting our first grandbaby, lives in a cabin near us in Evergreen, Christina is off to Ireland for a semester in Gallway and then back to Colorado State for Physician Assistant study.
- Pushed out of airline job by FAA age 60 rule,( since has changed to 65 mandatory retirement.)
- Worked very hard to transition into the corporate side of flying. Landed a position with NetJets (no age limit), an aircraft fractional share ownership company, flying extremely wealthy people to fun places.
- Furloughed during the recession. After takeoffs and landings in over 50 countries and islands, it was great to take a break and just spend time with my girls, and remodel/ landscape my home in the mountains, (and skiing with the "Weister".)
- Expecting to be recalled to NetJets early next year, and have some more fun flying.
